First established in 1818, the Village of Hamel, Illinois became an incorporated village on February 24, 1955. Throughout the years, residents have seen the
town grow with the addition of businesses and residential development. City maintained water and sewer projects have enabled the continued growth of a village which boasts well-paved, quiet streets.

Security is insured by the Village police force and an excellent lighting system designed by Illinois Power Company, the supplier of power and natural gas in the village limits.

Located just 30 minutes from St. Louis, MO, at the intersection of Interstate 55 and Illinois Route 140, Hamel offers small town comforts and friendliness along with big city accessibility.
